Another undead samurai progresses from the painting queue...
According to the old C18 catalogue, this one was known as Ig. Link to the catalogue on the Stuff of Legends website is here: undead samurai
Ig is armed with a naginata, a curved blade pole arm. It probably wouldn't have been quite as rusty as it is here back in it's day.
The naginata is described as having a round handguard (known as a tsuba) between the handle and the shaft. They also have a long tang (nakago) that is inside the handle.
The handle of a naginata is traditionally oval shaped in profile, which the end of this one is. Though to be honest I'm not sure if that is how it was sculpted, or a result of sitting in a leadpile of poorly treated unpainted miniatures for a couple of decades!
Interestingly, naginata were often used by women warriors, onna bugesha. It's possible Ig was a woman before being added to the ranks of my undead horde.
But that's it for now. Another undead warrior added to the horde!
